Underwoods Town & County 2

firstly, after weeks of good strong training sessions zola found his name back on the starters sheet hoping to push on from his fine form during practice and transfer it into the game.

a very quick start from spinney as we played mid-table underwoods town & county, with a 4-5-1 formation being tried as we attempted to flood the midfield to stop the opposition gaining control.

lots of tackles from darby with some quality crunches and strong running from lil ash kept underwoods alert.

underwoods man in the midfield seemed to control the game with his passing playing diagonal balls through.

good work from underwoods brought a point blank reaction save out of jamie, was all they really threatened as we were more then capable of dealing with what underwoods threw at us.

good battling from darby saw lil ash take a gamble that nearly paid off as a chase to the ball saw the keeper turning his shot narrowly wide. darby and nez both also came close to testing the keeper but the half ended goaless.

a very fast start to the second half from us was another step to showing we have got out of our nightmare 2nd halfs where we tended to conceed quick goals.

we held them in a very faced paced end to end game until a chest pass back from big ash somehow managed to decieve jamie in a total Robbo moment (i even have the Robbo gloves.....) as the bounce on the ball took it around waiting hands and into the net.

gladly we didnt give in and kept trying to push for an equaliser until underwoods sealed their victory when their winger managed to curl a ball right onto the postage stamp (it was that well struck that well it hit the corner post).

moments of panic defending set in as we did all we could to keep the ball out and not allow the scoreline to make the game look like we were well beaten. saves from jamie and blocks from salmon, eddy, bear and lil ash among many others includint the cross bar managed to keep it as a 2-0 loss. which sadly did not reflect the game.

the ref. best ref ive personally had in years. allowed alot of tasty tackles and seemed a big fan of the 50/50 ball.
dint need to use his cards which in fairness to both teams we not warranted, and kept good banter with both teams, highlighting players for praise.

i know its a loss, and we shouldnt be happy to lose, but we showed guts and alot of pride today.
the battling is amazing to see in some of the lads, my only concern is players bottling tackles.

YOU WILL GET HURT!!!!!!

we need to appeal for more as the refs will listen and felt at times only 2/3 of us were calling for anything we could get.

hopefully a good turn out at training this week as it is back on thursdays.

to the guys on the sideline, thank you all. it does mean alot to have people watching us, we can all remember times when the only people watching were the subs and it gets a bit sad when the opposition bring a good following yet the home team doesnt.

on a side note the M.O.T.M award was actually a tie between the two ash's but a thrilling best of three game of rock apaper scissors saw ash "the lil" victorious.

personal note, very sorry about the goal. im gutted as it is but would have been really down had it been the winner.

so once again im really sorry.
