after snatching defeat from the jaws of victory last week, we knew we had to make amends this week. we were up against our seemingly rival team fc sparks and it didnt fail to dissapoint.
the familiar ref....who gives us nothing was also present so we could tell it was going to be another game with dodgy calls and flash points.....
we were 2-0 down in the first 10 minutes when darby made slight contact with sparks' forward for him to throw himself over....a dive which saw an average 8.9 judge rating...would have been 9 but her didnt keep that leg straight!!!! :)
anyway, sods law the ref gave it....and despite having to re-take for infringement sparks player calmly slotted home the re-take for 1-0....the second shortly followed when a break in play saw them run free and slide the ball into the bottom corner to leave spinney fearing the worst....
a challenge from zola which was more of a penalty then the first one was actually waved away by the ref to everyones astoundment.
we were back in the game when peeete broke free and was brought down in the area for which lil ash made no mistake with dispatching.....just when you think nothings happening up pops darby and shins another of his wonder strikes to drag us back to 2-2 solid defending and jambo literally playing as a sweeper with a sliding tackle outside the area as sparks broke on the right wing before peeete popped in to fully turn the game around and give us a 3-2 lead going into half-time.
we rode our luck at times in the second half. they had a goal ruled out for offside, and broke well, but we finally started taking our chances and peeete took his secod goal brilliantly to give us the two goal safety net we deserved. we bombarded their goal in the second half, with lil ash, steve, peeete and darby all testing the keeper. if darbys strike wasnt enough then big ash took the step up to try and better him for goal of the day, jinking between a few players, before smashing the ball with very little back-lift and if not for a finger touch from the keeper, it ended up rattling the post which might have been still shaking by the end of the game!!!!
with a brilliant defence jambo had little to do until the last minute when a point blank save was really all there was.
the ref- he gives us nothing, but acts like he is our best mate......players did get mouthy with him, but even sparks players were left bemused after their own lads were verbally abusing ours and the ref just stood there and did nothing at all.
the penalty he gave against us was terrible, he gave us a stonewall one and even waved away another stonewall penalty when peeete was taken out by the keeper who made no attempt to go for the ball.
we just need to get on with it really, he wont change his mind on things and all it will result in is a yellow or a red....and thats the last thing we need.
we needed to improve after last week and we did.
darby, you were inspired today, absolutley brilliant. battled all the way through.
nez was spot on, winning the ball and strong tackles...big ash, superb. playing upfront and after dropping back to centre back...quality.
we all played our hearts out and to be 2-0 down after 10 minutes to fight back leading at half time... if it hadnt been for their keeper it would have been double figures for us. it was just a shame we had to go 2 down before we actually started playing.
hopefully see a good turnout thursday and then another good game sunday.
well done.
